French Lick Santa Claus

Today we set out on an adventure to Santa Claus, Indiana, in search of some holiday fun. After a few hours in the car, we arrived and were surprised to find that the bulk of the sites were in a strip mall (we were expecting a quaint little street). So, we ventured into the Santa Claus Museum- a place full of the town's history. It had a lot of great history, but someone should really donate some $$$. It was a bit rundown and had horrible fluorescent lighting, but none the less it was truly full of some great (and sometimes creepy- see below) things.

(Can you spot the creepy doll in the display?)

We then ventured next door to the Santa Claus post office, where a group of volunteers known as Santa's Elves answer letters sent to Santa each year. Afterwards, we stopped by the Santa Claus Christmas Store , which had an awesome amount of Santas and other Christmas decor.

We then headed to Santa's Candy Castle (established in 1935)- less candy than we were hoping for, but we did have the most delicious frozen hot chocolate (1/4 lb. of chocolate in each!).

Our last stop in Santa Claus was the Santa Claus statue (dedicated Christmas Day 1935), which still stands in the same site of the original Santa Claus Land (now known as Holiday World), the world's first amusement park!

Since we were done at Santa Claus, we took a quick detour to French Lick. Our main reason was to stop by the casino. While we weren't as lucky as in our Niagara trip, we did get two free t-shirts (aka dust rags) and can now say we've been to French Lick.

All in all, a great day spent together. Happy adventuring!

Ice Hotel: Hot or Not?

 (Image via here)

Would you ever stay at an ice hotel? We've heard about these before, but Icehotel in Sweden is rated one of the best. Open for over 20 years, guests have the option to stay in either cold accommodations (never below 23 F or -5C) or warm accommodations for those who aren't brave enough to sleep in the cold.

It could be pretty neat, but give us the warm room please!

Pilgrim Party?

This weekend we're off on another adventure. This time to Cleveland. We might even have another tagalong! Saturday night we'll be attending an anniversary party, but Friday night we're invited to a pilgrim party. Yes, as in pilgrims. From the Mayflower. Sounds like a happenin' time to us!

Always Take Your Camera To The Zoo

Lesson to be learned: Take your camera everywhere you go. We went to the Indy Zoo today, and didn't bring our camera (thinking we wouldn't need it), but wouldn't you know- all the animals were being excessively cute and out!

The lionesses were talking to each other and cleaning each others ears while the male of the group marched around; the red pandas (which always sleep) were strolling about being super cute, and we waved at the grizzly bear (don't ask) and he waved back. No joke.

So boys and girls, always take your camera with you. You never know where adventure could lie!

Halloween in August?

(Image via here)

Yesterday we were doing some shopping, and stopped at Michael's to look around. And wouldn't you know it- there were Halloween decorations, crafts, and candy. Really? It's August. Maybe that's not so bad, but then we walked by an isle that had some Christmas decor out! Let's finish summer first!

Where Would You Go?

If you could go anywhere in the world right NOW, where would it be? Money is no object and work doesn't get in the way. Would it be somewhere hot? Cold? Historic? Luxurious? Modern? Rustic?

Would you go alone or take someone with you? Where would your wanderlust take you?

Our Adventure Through The Indiana State Fair

Yesterday we went to the Indiana State Fair, and we definitely indulged our fried food needs. Here's our journey through photos (mind you, we split the food delicacies). Enjoy the largest pumpkin (over 1000 lbs), world's largest boar (over 1000 lbs), and fried butter- among other interesting things.

Fried butter (surprisingly not gross)

True Blood Tastes Like...

Today we decided to scout out some True Blood (featured on the show, True Blood). We are huge fans of the HBO hit, and were excited to find out that they would be marketing the imitation blood drink to fans (in real life it's blood orange flavor).

So after looking on HBO's website (so expensive there with the shipping, find it in stores instead) and deciding not to order from there, we found out that it was available at Border's. And while it's expensive ($5.99 for one bottle), we're hoping for the price to go down. So are you excited to try some True Blood?

Wisconsin Adventures: Jelly Beans, Cheese, and Fun

Our apologies, dear readers, for not updating ALL weekend. We were in a part of Wisconsin that didn't cater to the internet, but boy did we have fun.

On our way up, we made two pit stops with our tag along M. The first, an Arby's with an interesting wall (see photo below). The second stop was at the Albanese Candy Factory in Merrillville, Indiana. M was blown away by the giant chocolate fountain found inside, and like us, recommends this as a stop for anyone passing through Northwestern Indiana.

After reaching our destination in Wisconsin, we spent the weekend enjoying drinks and good company. We also made a special trip to the Jelly Belly Factory where we enjoyed a free tour (less exciting than it sounds, since it's basically watching videos while taking an electric train ride) and free samples. Afterward, we made a group trip to the grocery store where we picked out some delicious Wisconsin cheeses and food for the weekend feast.

All in all a great trip. So, how was your weekend?
